What this site collects, what it does not, who else sees it and how to opt out. No accounts, no newsletter, no data sold to anyone.
The short version
What we collect
This site has no accounts, no logins and no shopping basket. There is nothing here to sign up for, so there is very little to collect.
- Nothing you type, unless you send it. The only place you can enter anything is the contact form. What you send there goes to our email and stays there. It is not added to a list and it is not passed on.
- Standard web server records. Our host logs the usual technical information every web server logs: IP address, browser, the page requested and the time. This is how websites work and it is used for security and troubleshooting.
- Aggregate analytics. Which pages people read and roughly where in the world they are. We use it to decide what to write next. It does not identify you.
We do not sell visitor data, we do not run a newsletter, we do not operate advertising networks on this site, and we do not build profiles of individual readers.

A handful of outside services are involved in running the site. Each has its own privacy policy, and each is listed here rather than buried.

This list is kept current. If a service is added or removed, this page changes with it.
Links out to operator websites, the National Park Service and Recreation.gov take you to systems we do not control. Once you leave this site, the privacy policy of wherever you land applies instead of ours.
Money
Affiliate links and tracking
We plan to earn commission on some bookings made through this site. That has a privacy dimension and it belongs here rather than only on the disclosure page.
- How it works. An affiliate link carries a code identifying this site. If you book, the operator or marketplace credits the referral. That usually involves a cookie set by the network, not by us.
- What we see. That a booking happened and what it was worth. Not your name, not your card, not your contact details.
- What it costs you. Nothing. Commission is paid by the operator out of a price you would have paid anyway.
- What it does not buy. Position on this site. No operator pays to appear or to rank higher, and recommendations are not sorted by what pays most.
Control
Your choices
- Block cookies in your browser. Every modern browser can refuse or delete them. The site works without them, apart from affiliate credit.
- Opt out of Google Analytics using Google's own browser add on, which works across every site that uses it rather than just this one.
- Use a tracking blocker. We do not attempt to detect or defeat them.
- Ask us what we hold. If you have emailed us and want that correspondence deleted, say so and it will be.
If you are visiting from the United Kingdom or the European Union, or you are a California resident, you have specific rights over personal data including access and deletion. The practical route is the same in every case: email and ask. Given how little this site collects, there is rarely much to hand over.

Photographs and written content on this site are ours or used with permission, and they are not offered under an open licence. If you want to use something, ask.
Structured data on these pages points here as the licence location, which is why this section exists on a privacy page. For permissions, corrections or takedown requests, use the contact page and the matter will be dealt with promptly.
Housekeeping
Changes to this policy
This page is dated and it changes when the site does. If a new service is added, if affiliate partnerships go live, or if the way anything works here changes materially, this page is updated first.
There is no mailing list to notify, so the date at the top of the page is the mechanism. Material changes will also be noted on the disclosure page.
