Moab In A Day, sorted by how much you walk

The only Moab operator whose menu is built around activity level rather than destination. Five trips from a three hour sunset run at $139 to a seven hour hiking day at $299, all capped at nine passengers.

The short answer

The short read

Best for: anyone who wants to know how much walking is involved before they pay. The menu is a ladder, and you pick the rung that matches your legs.

Rates run $139 to $429, and every trip is capped at nine passengers, which is smaller than the biggest vehicle tours in town.

What makes this menu unusual is that the trips are not really different destinations. They are different amounts of effort at broadly similar places, priced accordingly. That is a more useful way to choose than most operators offer.

Effort

How much walking each one involves

Most Moab tour companies describe a trip by where it goes and leave you to guess how far you will walk. Ask any operator for the distance and a good one will tell you. This menu builds the answer into the product.

Sunset, 3 hrs
Leastshort stops
Overview, 4 hrs

Walking tour, 5 hrs

All day, 7 hrs

If you are travelling with somebody whose knees decide the day, start at the bottom of this ladder rather than booking the long one and hoping. A three hour sunset trip at $139 is a real park visit, not a consolation prize.

If you came to walk, the seven hour day at $299 is the one. It costs roughly twice the overview trip and gives you a great deal more than twice the time on your feet.

Ask for the distance anyway

Activity levels are a better guide than nothing, but a number is better still. Ring and ask how many miles the day involves on your date, because routes change with heat, closures and the size of the group. Moab Tourism Center publish about 1.5 miles across four stops, which is a useful yardstick for what a standard park tour means by walking.

Group size

Nine passengers, and why it matters

Nine is not private, but it is not twelve either. On a park tour the cap decides how long each stop takes and how much of the guide's attention you get.

What nine feels like

A van, not a bus

Everybody hears the guide without a microphone, loading and unloading at each stop takes minutes rather than a quarter of an hour, and the group can stand together at a viewpoint instead of spreading across it.

Against the alternatives

Where it sits

Mild to Wild run up to twelve on their standard Arches half day and cap a premium version at six. Moab Lux and Wild West Voyages sell the vehicle privately to three or four. Nine sits in the middle, closer to the small end.

If you are a group of six or more travelling together, ask whether buying out the vehicle is possible and what it costs. On a nine seat van that is often a smaller step than it sounds, and it turns a shared day into a private one.

Choosing

Sunset, 3 hrs$139

Overview, 4 hrs$169

Walking tour, 5 hrs$199
Came here to hike
All day, 7 hrs$299

The sunset trip is underrated. Evening is when the rock does what everybody came to photograph, the temperature drops out of the dangerous range in summer, and the crowds have thinned. At $139 it is the cheapest trip on this page and arguably the best value.

The all day hiking trip at $299 is the one to compare against a private guided hike. At that price a group of three or four might do better with a guide to themselves, so it is worth pricing both before you book.

We do not run trips, own gear or employ guides, and no operator pays to appear here or to appear higher. Details below are from each company's own published material, checked September 2026. Full disclosure.

Common questions

Questions

How much does Moab In A Day cost?

The three hour sunset tour is $139, the four hour overview $169, the five hour walking tour $199, and the seven hour all day hiking trip $299. The Discover Moab option runs $349 to $429. Rates are per person before tax and gratuity.

How much walking is on a Moab In A Day tour?

It depends which trip you book, and that is the point of the menu. The sunset tour involves the least, the overview adds viewpoint walking, the five hour walking tour puts you on foot between stops, and the seven hour day is built around trails. Ring and ask for the distance on your date.

How many people are on a Moab In A Day tour?

Nine passengers is the stated maximum. That is smaller than the largest vehicle based tours in town, which run up to twelve, and larger than the premium small group and private options. A group of six or more can ask about buying out the vehicle.

Which Moab In A Day tour is best value?

The three hour sunset tour at $139 is the cheapest and takes you out when the light is best and the heat has broken. If you came to walk, the seven hour hiking day at $299 gives more than twice the time on foot for less than twice the price of the four hour overview.

Is Moab In A Day better than a private guide?

For one or two people, a shared seat is cheaper. At three or four the sums narrow, and the seven hour hiking trip at $299 per person is worth pricing against a private guided hike, which starts around $100 to $200 per person at that group size.
