Money and independence

How this site makes money

Short answer, as of August 2026: it does not. Here is the full picture anyway, including what will change and what will not.

Current status

Every link to an operator on this site is an ordinary link. We earn nothing when you click it and nothing if you book. No affiliate programme, no referral agreement, no paid placement, no sponsored listings.

We do not run trips, own vehicles or gear, or employ guides. You book direct with the operator at their own published rate, and the price is the same as if you had found them yourself.

The future

What happens when that changes

Sites like this one are usually funded by affiliate commission, where a booking platform pays a small percentage of trips booked through a link. We expect to join one or more of those programmes as the site grows. When we do, three things will be true and we are committing to them here in advance.

You will never pay more

Affiliate commission is paid by the booking platform out of its own margin. The rate you pay is the operator's rate whether you arrive through this site or any other route. If that ever stops being true for a particular partner, we will drop the partner.

Commission will not change the rankings

The order of operators on a page is set by what suits the reader, and never by what pays. That is not a moral position so much as a practical one: a comparison site that sorts by commission is worthless within a year, because readers work it out and stop coming back.

Paid links will be labelled

When commercial links appear they will be marked on the page carrying them, not buried here. Operators who pay nothing will keep their listings and their full write ups, because a comparison that only includes paying partners is not a comparison.

Personal connections get declared

The author works as a guide in Moab, which is a small town with a small guiding community. If he takes work or a referral arrangement with any company listed here, that relationship will be stated on this page and next to that company, before the next article goes out.

Current declarations

None. As of August 2026 the author has no employment, referral or payment relationship with any operator listed on this site. This section will be updated with the date if that changes.

Other things worth stating

Reviews, prices and what we cannot promise

  • We do not publish our own review scores. We have not run these trips as a paying customer at scale, so inventing star ratings would tell you nothing real. Where we describe who a trip suits, that is a judgement based on the published route and local knowledge, and we say so.
  • Prices are checked, not guaranteed. Every page carries the month its figures were verified. Operators change rates seasonally and mid season. Confirm at the point of booking.
  • Permit and access rules change. We cite the National Park Service, the Bureau of Land Management and Recreation.gov directly and link to them so you can check the current position yourself.
  • We are not the operator. Safety, insurance, cancellations and refunds are between you and the company you book with. Read their terms.
